Skylights...square or rectangle???

Hi everyone, sorry I have been away from blogging all week...this packing is killing me!!! Every time I look at a box I am getting a migraine so does that mean I hire a skip bin and just get rid of the rest? Well, it is an easy way out but I don't think I could do it. Anyway, I need your help...today we are choosing skylights for the attic which is going to have cathedral ceilings rather than a flat top. I am so confused at the moment with making a decision...do I go square or rectangle?

Square???

Rectangle???

What would you choose??? I have been recommended to go for one 1mt by 1mt square but I don't think its enough as its a big room so I want to put at least two in to make it nice and bright. The other thing I have on my mind is, is square set too modern for me??? Help please!!! Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi Siobhan, we have large rectangular ones in our 1900's home and I love the shape of them. Yes i think square is too modern personally. We didnt put these in but If I were I would make sure it had some sort of mechanism to "close" it in summer as they really heat up a room from the sun particularly if upstairs. I think that the new ones have some sort of shading thing you can get?

  3. Siobhan I see your problem. Personally I agree with alicia and would go for the rectangular ones. That way you can pick your size. Also i think this is less formal. Good luck Sandy

  5. Hi Siobhan,
Hm, good luck with your decision. We have two square ones, however our house is quite open and modern. I also wanted to suggest you think about morning and afternoon sun coming through-I see Alicia has already commented.
    Good luck,
    Hugs,

Hope the packing is nearly done. It isn't until we start packing for a move that we realise how much stuff we have

  9. Rectangle. It will also elongate the roof, visually. Link to new french provincial collection; www.earlysettler.com.au then go to collections, then provincial oak. Best of luck with the move, a hideous nightmare, I know! xxx

  11. I think you are going in the right direction. You know, your instincts are always right and you don't want to let someone talk you out of what would work best for you - heck, you have to live there!

  12. Siobhan,
I haven't had much time for blogging, or visiting blogs lately, so had to catch up on some of your older posts. I love the French bureau, and the hall stand! OMG! They are both stunning!! Your new home is going to be gorgeous regardless of which skylights you choose!
